North Texans React to Grounding of Boeing 737 Max 8, 9 Aircraft

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Days after the deadly crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight, President Trump announced Wednesday that the United States will order the grounding of all Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 planes. Many North Texans are siding with the President’s decision.

The President said the “Safety of the American People is of paramount concern.”

“I don’t have a problem with being cautious,” one traveler said outside of Love Field Airport Wednesday in response to the President’s order.

“It’s the safe move,” said a regular Southwest Airlines customer.

More than 50 other countries have also grounded the planes.

American, Southwest, and United Airlines will be affected the most, and all say they are working with the FAA to do what is necessary to safely get the planes back in the air.

American Airlines released a statement on the President’s decision:

“Earlier today the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) informed us that based on new information, they are grounding the United States Boeing 737 MAX fleet out of an abundance of caution. American Airlines has 24 aircraft affected by this directive. We appreciate the FAA’s partnership, and will continue to work closely with them, the Department of Transportation, National Transportation Safety Board and other regulatory authorities, as well as our aircraft and engine manufacturers. Our teams will make every effort to rebook customers as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Southwest Airlines released a statement of its own:

“Our goal is to operate our schedule with every available aircraft in our fleet to meet our customers’ expectations during the busy spring travel season. Additionally, to support our customers, Southwest is offering flexible rebooking policies.”
