North Richland Hills K9 Koba, Recovers from Shooting, Returns to Duty

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (WBAP/KLIF)- North Richland Hills Police K-9 Koba recently returned to full duty, after being shot while attempting to apprehend an armed suspect.

Carissa Katekaru with the North Richland Hills Police Department said Koba enthusiastically warmed up before hitting the streets on his first day back. “He had quite the road to recovery with several surgeries… but he was resilient,” Katekaru said. “In fact, his handler said that he picked up right where he left off, didn’t skip a beat at all,” she said.

Katekaru said his handler stayed by his side through the entire process, highlighting the bond between them.

“We are thankful for the constant stream of support, calls, cards and well wishes while Koba recovered. Each one was hand delivered to the K-9 team, and brought joy and comfort to them during the difficult days,” she said.
