DENTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The pedestrian hit by a vehicle late last month in Denton has died and two people jailed in connection to the case could face more charges.
According to the Denton Police Department, the victim of an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, that occurred on February 26 passed away
Friday at Medical City Plano.
Initial reports show that Denton Police and Fire/Rescue responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck and injured by a vehicle near the
intersection of Bluebird Circle and Cardinal Drive. Responding officers found that the crash appeared to be an intentional act.
“The information we have is that the victim may have been trying to break up a fight at the time he was hit,” Denton Police Officer Brian Cose said.
25-year-old Delisha McPeters was identified as the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian and was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Delisha and his 29-year-old brother, Joshua McPeters, were also charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence after investigators learned they had attempted to clean the victim’s blood off their vehicle.
“Both of the suspects are still in the Denton County jail,” Office Cose said Friday.
Early Friday morning, investigators received word that the victim passed away. Detectives will work with the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Denton County District Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate charges for presentation to the Denton County Grand Jury.
