Two Tarrant County Food Banks Team Up to Feed Over 700 Families

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- The Community Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank combined forces to serve over 1,000 pounds of food to 700 hungry families.

Kristie Whitaker got a weeks worth of groceries donated from Walmart and Trader Joes. “I got all sorts of stuff even dog food, this place is always good to me,” Whitaker said. “Much needed because we have a fixed income and get very little food stamps that go with it so we need all the help we can get,” she said.

Eric Holloway has been volunteering at the Community Food Bank for 8 years. He said the food pantry is open from Monday-Thursday 9a-1p but when they combine their efforts with TA Food Bank they can offer even more. “We got a truck that loaded probably over 1,000 pounds of food, and it’s all really good quality donated from grocery stores,” Holloway said.

Rudy Taylor, Chief Operations Manager at Community Food Bank said this is their fourth collaboration with the Tarrant Area Food Bank. “What’s nice about this is that they have access to USDA foods which means more meat, chicken and more fresh vegetable,” Taylor said.

Taylor said all you need is a photo ID to get a weeks worth of groceries. “There’s no criteria, if you’re hungry we are feeding you,” Taylor said.

The next combined distribution is on March 28th.
