Gov. Abbott pays tribute to North Texas cities for economic achievement

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott heaped praise on the D/FW Metroplex cities of Irvin and Las Colina Monday for their economic achievements.

In accepting another Governor’s Cup award from Site Selection magazine Abbott said, “You need to know this, Irving-Las Colinas has more Fortune 500 companies than any other city in the United States.”

In listing five development projects planned for Irvin he mentioned McKesson Corp., the nation’s largest pharmaceutical distributor, planning to relocate its headquarters from San Francisco to Irving in April. McKesson ranks sixth on the Fortune 500 list.

The Dallas Morning News reported Abbott also oil and gas, steel, technology and business-service products that are building new Texas facilities.

Speaking at an economic development and chamber of commerce forum in Austin Abbott accepted Site Selection’s seventh consecutive award on behalf of the Lone Star State for having the most “qualified projects in all states during the previous calendar year.
