Scammers are Impersonating Pastors to Solicit Gift Cards

(WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is trying to give church folks a heads up about scammers.

Paxton has issued a consumer alert regarding people pretending to be pastors or priests, who are texting church members and asking them to buy gift cards for a fake charitable cause.

Scammers claim these gift cards are needed, but insist that the person cannot pick up the gift card themselves and that the purchaser will be reimbursed.

The Attorney General believes the information is being gathered on church websites.
