FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) Funding for the final stage of the North Tarrant Express project was approved.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price heads back from Austin with a big update, the $662 million project, that won’t affect tax payers, will alleviate traffic and connect thousands of citizens in the region.

“As we continue to grow we’ve got to get people moving and out of congestion and this is another step toward make that happen,” Price said.

This project will free up I-35W, which to date has had more than one million travelers. Price said the project adds continuous frontage roads, manages toll lanes and will have free lanes on the outside.

“Someone mentioned today: the average commuter will shave 5 hours of travel time after this project is completed,” Price said.

It’s set for completion in 2023.
