Dallas City Council Votes to Reinstate Teenage Curfew

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The teenage curfew will soon be back in effect in the City of Dallas.

After months of debate, the Dallas City Council passed an ordinance Wednesday that will officially reinstate the curfew March 4, with revisions. Councilman Adam McGough said the curfew is aimed at safety, not criminalizing teens.

“This is absolutely about protecting the kids,” McGough said.

The new curfew keeps daytime and nighttime hours and reduces the maximum fine from $500 to $50.

Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall addressed the council Wednesday. She said the Police Department will focus efforts toward keeping kids engaged in productive activities.

“We’re going to proceed with proactive programs with our community groups to find an alternative way to deal with our youth before we have to deal with them on a curfew,” Chief Hall said.

As part of the revised ordinance, the city will also give $500,000 to the Parks and Rec Department for youth services.
