City of McKinney Moving Forward on Performing Arts Theatre, Entertainment Venue

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of McKinney has signed a letter of intent for a performing arts theater and entertainment venue.

The city, along with the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and the McKinney Community Development Corporation signed a letter of intent with Starlight Entertainment for the development of a performing arts theatre and state-of-the-art entertainment venue to be constructed adjacent to the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

“We want to preserve our unique sense of community and to collaborate with developers who wish to bring exceptional developments that provide extraordinary experiences to McKinney,” said Mayor George Fuller. “Based on their track record in the entertainment industry, I believe Starlight shares in our vision of creating unique destinations, and this is the first step in an incredible partnership.”

Starlight Entertainment is owned by Michael A. Jenkins, the former President and Managing Director of Dallas Summer Musicals.

“I am thrilled about the prospect of partnering with McKinney to bring the best of professional theater and touring Broadway shows to this area and to construct a first-class family entertainment center. We believe this will be a great addition to McKinney and will be a major attraction for this area,” said Jenkins.

The letter describes the development of a three-floor 2,000-seat performing arts theatre, an 86,000-square-foot entertainment complex and a structured parking garage. The complex will also include multiple restaurants.
