DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The union representing American Airlines flight attendants claims the airline’s attendance policy is discriminatory against women.
Flight attendants held signs and voiced disapproval Monday for the attendance policy and what they call “unfair labor practices” outside a Dallas hotel where executives were meeting at an annual leadership conference.
“We’ve been fighting this fight since the 1960’s,” said Association of Professional Flight Attendants President, Lori Bassani. “It’s obnoxious.”
Bassani said the attendance policy for flight attendants, who are mostly women is more strict than the policy for pilots, where men hold the majority.
The airline released a statement saying it’s negotiating with the union and confident it can make progress with its partners. The full statement is posted below:
We met with APFA in negotiations last week under the early opener clause of the collective bargaining agreement, with more meetings scheduled for March. We support our engaged and passionate team members making their voices heard. As discussions continue, we are confident that we can work with the union’s negotiating team to both prioritize the needs of our 27,000 flight attendants and allow American Airlines to operate competitively.
