Records show who paid for Governor Abbott’s inauguration

Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s inauguration celebration for his second term was funded with nearly $5 million donated by his biggest political contributors, and a number of major corporations. Records released by Abbott’s Inauguration Committee show AT&T and grocery chain HEB were among the companies that donated $100,000 or more toward the January Inaugural. Corporations are prohibited by Texas law from directly giving money to political candidates, but they can help pay for inaugurations. Other donors include a number of longtime political contributors to the Governor’s campaigns. Over the years Abbott has been one of the most prolific fund raisers of any Governor in the country.
