DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas father is behind bars after his children were found living in filthy conditions.
According to the Dallas Police Department, Officers responded to a South Dallas apartment regarding an abandoned child. A witness told Police she had found a child running in the roadway of the apartment complex. The child appeared to be cold and not properly dressed for the weather. While the officers were at the apartment, Robert Preston identified himself to be the child’s father. Police arrested Preston after learning he had an outstanding felony warrant. Preston told Officers that he had other children inside his apartment. The officers found three children and a malnourished dog inside the apartment. Police said the condition of the apartment was not safe or healthy for the welfare of all. The children were placed into the custody of Child Protective Services and Animal Control took custody of the dog.
Preston was charged with four counts of Abandon Endanger Child with the Intent to Return and an outstanding warrant.
“They also had two older sisters who were not at the apartment at the time,” said Marissa Gonzalez with Family Protective Services. “But the girls were also placed in foster care.”
Gonzalez said a Judge will hold a custody hearing in coming weeks.
