Dallas Rape Crisis Center President Praises New Bipartisan Survivor Bills

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The President of the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center says support for sexual assault survivors is long overdue, but is pleased to see help finally coming from Austin. Amy Jones helped advise lawmakers on new proposed legislation and this week, bipartisan state senators and representatives announced several new bills to support survivors. The 15-million dollars in funding includes programs to reduce wait lists at rape crisis centers- a big roadblock for many seeking immediate help. Jones says it’s a big step forward for survivors and notes that studies show two out of every five women are victims of sexual assault. She says one out of every five men is a victim as well.
