Coppell ISD Middle School Sees Alarming Spike in Flu Cases

COPPELL  (WBAP/KLIF News) – More than 300 Coppell Middle School West students were absent with flu-like symptoms on both Monday and Tuesday, prompting district officials to take measures to stop the illness from spreading.

The district sent a letter to parents that said a custodial team is going to deep clean and disinfect the classrooms and other areas.

The letter also stated that officials understand that recovery from the flu and other similar illnesses often takes several days.

Despite the alarming number of sick students, the school remained opened Wednesday and operations are continuing as usual.

Dr. Malik Patel with MedExpress Urgent Care said the illness is keeping healthcare workers busy across the Metroplex.

He said the spike in cases shows the importance of getting a flu shot.

“I am going to push for everyone has not gotten vaccinated to go ahead and do so. The flu season has not ended yet so there is still plenty of time,” he said.
