AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Attorney General has announced that 95,000 people identified by the Department of Public Safety as non-U.S. citizens matched voter registration in Texas.
Ken Paxton’s office also said it is believed 58,000 of them have voted in at least one election in Texas.
Paxton said every single instance of illegal voting threatens democracy in the state.
“My Election Fraud Unit stands ready to investigate and prosecute crimes against the democratic process when needed,” Paxton said in a statement.
The Attorney General’s office says Texas law currently does not requite verification of a voter’s statement that they are a citizen.
Law does allow non-U.S. citizens to obtain driver licenses by showing proof they are in the country legally.
