GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF)- TSA officers, pilots and other airport staff rally outside DFW Airport as the Government Shutdown enters its fourth week.
Brian Golden is an American Airlines employee. He said the fact that TSA officers are required to work without pay is wrong and has noticed longer lines for security. “It’s impacting the passengers, it’s impacting the employees more and more…as this continues flights are going to start getting delayed,” Golden said.
Johnny Jones, a TSA officer said working for no money is hard but knowing they have a duty to protect passengers helps boost the morale. Jones said he’s noticed other TSA officers look for jobs elsewhere. “They are working for Uber, Lyft…after work anything to give them extra cash,” he said.
Some employees are worried these officers won’t want to work without pay much longer…
As airport staff rallies outside the airport, other organizations are taking it to the next level.
Lori Bassani President of the Euless-based Association of Professional Flight Attendants sent a letter to the White House demanding some kind of resolution. “They haven’t had a paycheck and we are concerned about the safety of our passengers and crews…we depend on TSA to screen the passengers,” Bassani said. In the letter she mentions 9/11 and the importance of security. “We cannot sacrifice critical safety, security, and economic stability in the airline industry as another area of national security is discussed,” Bassani said.
