Collin County Food Pantry Opens Doors to Federal Employees Affected by Government Shutdown

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – A Collin County food pantry is opening its doors to federal employees working without a paycheck during the partial government shutdown.

Lynette Wellington is the Executive Director of Minnie’s Food Pantry’ in Plano and said Wednesday that she and the community is dedicated to making sure there’s plenty of food for families affected by the shutdown.

“Saturday was the first time we started seeing people affected by [the shutdown],” Wellington said. “We brought out bigger pieces of meat for people to take home and added additional milk for people to get going.”

Wellington said government employees working without pay can stock up on groceries once a week at the pantry during the shutdown.

Local Groups like Operation Kindness and Hope Supply Company are gathering resources for government workers. Many local restaurants are also doing their part to help out.
