Texas’ Top Elected Republican Leaders Talk Priorities for This Year

(WBAP/KLIF)- Texas’ top elected Republican leaders Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and newly elected Speaker Dennis Bonnen talk about their list of priorities as the 2019 Legislative Session begins.

Governor Abbott said they will work together on issues and transform the state of Texas.

Lieutenant Governor Patrick said if the three of them are aligned to accomplish a mission and pass legislation, it will happen. “It’s a great day for the legislature, it’s a great day for Texas that the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the House are united and all working together for the best interest of all Texans,” Patrick said.

Bonnen added they’ve all been in contact since the day he was elected, discussing the big issues that matter for Texans. “I appreciate them being so welcoming and receptive, helping me transition to the position of Speaker and we will continue to communicate and work together because when you communicate you solve big problems,” Bonnen said.

Some issues the  leaders addressed were reforming the school finance system, teacher income, reforming property taxes, making schools safer and providing help to flood and hurricane victims.
