GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – The search for the next Garland Police Chief has been narrowed to four finalists.
Current Police Chief Mitch Bates accepted a new position as Garland’s Deputy City Manager and Chief Operating Officer. Chief Bates will continue to serve as Police Chief until his replacement has been selected.
City Manager Bryan Bradford announced the following four finalists for the position of Chief of Police:
– Jeff Bryan – Assistant Police Chief, Garland, TX
– Charles René – Assistant Police Chief, Garland, TX
– Ely Reyes – Assistant Police Chief, Austin, TX
– Mark Schauer – Assistant Police Chief, Corpus Christi, TX
Bradford said all of the finalists possess a wealth of diverse experience, demonstrated career stability and strong leadership qualities that will continue the success of Garland Police Department.
The City of Garland began the national recruitment process in October 2018. The City will conduct a formal candidate review process on Thursday, February 7, which will include a series of interviews with various panels, including community leaders as well as current Police Chiefs, City Managers, Police employees and other City staff members. Bradford is expected to announce a decision after the completion of the interview process.
