NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Gas prices have been declining for months now and the trend has continued into 2019.
AAA’s Daniel Armbruster said the state wide gas price average is a $1.93 for a gallon of regular unleaded and it’s even cheaper across the Metroplex.
“In Dallas Fort Worth, the average this week is about $1.87 for regular unleaded. That’s down four cents from last week but it’s down thirty cents from a year ago,” he said.
Many are wondering if the trend is too good to be true and are concerned about an expected spike in prices. It’s a scenario Armbruster said typically happens in the Spring.
“Because we switch over to Summer blend gasoline which is a little more expensive to produce. That takes place in March April,” he said.
Armbruster said as far as prices going way up, that depends how long it takes for the domino effect from what OPEC is doing with the global supply to trickle down into the U.S. markets.
“OPEC recently did decide to make some changes for this year that would tighten the supply and demand difference and that could bring prices back up in 2019 but we’ll have to wait and see,” he said.
He said most North Texas families are saving about $4.16 per tank with the average gas tank holding about thirteen gallons.
Texas has some of the lowest gas prices in the country with the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded sitting around $2.25.
