Seth Denson with GDP Advisers says costs as stated online are likely to conflict with different prices charged in deals set with insurance companies. In addition, Denson suggests this first step is one of at least ten, information-wise, before consumers will be able to fully “count on” a price for certain procedures at any given hospital. Denson says prices negotiated with insurance companies will also need to be published, as will much more information, before consumers will know the bottom line.
“This is a great first step in the right direction, but in Texas, we talk about the two step. Right, there is a step two, and three, and other steps have to come down the road”, Denson says.
Starting January first, hospitals are legally required to post procedure costs online.
