FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- A Fort Worth father of five was arrested last night on capital murder charges. 26-year-old Joseph Welborn is accused of murdering his 2 month old son, Christian, who died from blunt force trauma to the head. Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said Christian’s mother and grandfather was out of their northwest Fort Worth home at the time of the incident. Welborn initially told officers he had never been alone with Christian and that the head trauma occurred when Christian’s 4-year-old brother dropped him. However, Waybourn said forensic evidence shows a timeline that Joseph was alone. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner found there were at least two impacts on Christian’s head. Waybourn said Welborn was in and out of foster care during his teenage years. He says Welborn’s upbringing could have led to this and sheds light on the foster care system. “400 children are ready for adoption today and I believe we have 400 good families ready to adopt,” Waybourn said. Welborn’s four other children are in custody of Child Protective Services. His bond is set for $250,000.
