DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- DART employees compete in a “friendly food fight”.
Each department at DART competes to raise money and donate food for Union Gospel Mission, a non-profit serving the homeless in North Texas. DART CEO Gary Thomas said they collected over 30,000 pounds of food and over $8,000. “It’s certainly about feeding and making sure they have a roof over their head but it’s also about putting them back to work, giving them the opportunity to be a part of that working society again,” Thomas said. Thomas said DART has also provided jobs for some people who were part of the Mission’s homeless community.
DART has donated to the Mission for 22 years and this year they wanted to go bigger. 
Bruce Butler CEO of the mission says they serve 700 people any given night for food shelter clothing. “It’s nice to see people realize instead of worrying about how many presents and toys I have I’m going to take that money and give it someone else,” Butler said. He said this year’s event really helps provide a holiday meal and support for homeless families.
