Local organizations donate around 8,000 gifts to make sure children staying at Medical City Dallas have a present this year. Brooke Henderson with Medical City Children’s Hospital says parents can shop for their whole family right in the hospital. “It’s to spread cheer for these families while their going through this stressful time with family in the hospital,” Henderson said.
Organizers say by offering these gifts, it also takes away a financial burden these families may have while paying for medical bills. “Some families have even expressed how they were unsure how they were going to be al to buy presents this year because of all the medical expenses,” Henderson said.
Kelly McShean’s son is currently in surgery. She said this makes it easy for them to get gifts for the whole family. “I think it lifts your spirits as your anxious about things going on in the hospital and it’s great to see how many people care by giving donations,” Mcshean said.
Families left the hospital with wagons filled with loads of presents, wrapped by staff. Each child in the family can get up to three presents.
