String of Bomb Threats Affecting North Texas Businesses

(WBAP/KLIF) – Police Departments across North Texas responded to a string of bomb threats nationwide Thursday.

Police in Southlake, Lewisville, Corinth, Irving and other North Texas cities were alerted to similar threats.

“Small businesses primarily received an email demanding bitcoin in order to not set off a bomb,” said Officer Brad Uptmore with Southlake DPS.

Anyone who received a similar threat to ask to come forward.

“Call 9-1-1 if anything suspicious happened or if you get one of these emails,” said Uptmore.

Fort Worth Police released a statement Thursday afternoon:

“Throughout the course of the afternoon Fort Worth Fire Bomb and Arson units have been alerted to several email bomb threats. This has also been reported to be occurring nationwide.  The emails have been sent to several businesses and organizations and are all demanding ransom via the digital cryptocurrency Bitcoin in exchange for not detonating the alleged bombs.  At this time Bomb and Arson units do not believe there is a threat to the public and will continue to monitor the situation.”

Authorities are investigating the threats and asking the public to remain vigilant.
