MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF)- McKinney Councilman, La’Shadion Shemwell is facing a third degree felony charge of continuous family violence.
The Mckinney Police Department said Shemwell has a history of family violence.
Records show shemwell was booked into the Collin County Jail Thursday but has since been released.
In a facebook post a day prior to his arrest, Shemwell wrote about being falsely accused of a crime when he was 19 and that his opponents have used this against him. “I’m not going anywhere. If you want my seat, run for it and beat me. Your bully tactics don’t work over here,” Shemwell said.
In May, Shemwell was arrested for refusing to sign a citation after he was pulled over for speeding. Police say he accused the officer of racial profiling but shemwell later apologized to the officer at a council meeting after police released dash cam video. The city of McKinney said they are fully aware of his actions and has full confidence in the legal process. The City of Mckinney will not discuss his future with the council at this time.
