Humane Society of North Texas and City of Fort Worth to Host Mega Adoption Event

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Fort Worth and the Humane Society of North Texas are joining forces this weekend to make sure that hundreds of pets who need forever homes get adopted.

“We are hoping to find homes for the holidays for over 500 pets. We will have dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, all kinds of small animals and everything they could imagine,” said the Humane Society’s Cassie Lackey.

The organization will offer prospective pet parents realistic expectations about what it means to adopt.

“If you’ve got a high energy dog “Do you have the time to take the dog for a run? Do you have the time to take the dog for a walk once maybe twice a day? We do know the personalities of our pets…so we’re trying to match the family’s needs with the dog’s personality,” said Lackey.

Adopting pets rather than buying them has been increasing in popularity over the years and Lackey said it’s fact that’s not lost on the lucky new member of a family.

“Pets who are adopted or rescued…they know it and they are forever grateful and forever thankful. So, there is no greater love than to adopt a pet,” she said.

The event is being held at the Will Rogers Coliseum Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The admission is free and the pet adoption fee is $10.
