DALLAS – (WFAA-TV) – A Dallas woman who experienced cardiac arrest and then slipped into a coma as plastic surgery began in Mexico has died. WFAA-TV reports 36-year old Laura Avila never recovered from the start of surgery, after doctors administered anesthesia.
Medical tourism is increasingly popular with Americans seeking medical work, but trying to avoid America’s associated high costs, including those of surgeries and hospitalizations.
On Facebook, a family spokesperson suggests people considering “medical tourism” – going to another country for medical procedures, which can be so inexpensive as to also cover the cost of travel and lodging, sometimes in “dream vacation” spots – thoroughly investigates of medical training, credentials and experience, before having work done.
