State Farm Experts Report an Increase in Home Theft Claims During the Holidays

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- State Farm has reported seeing an uptick in home theft claims during the holidays in recent years. Chris Pilcic with State Farm said it’s because people are buying new things and usually going out of town. “Whether you’re gone for an hour or a week you want to make it appear that you are home,” Pilcic said. He suggested puting your lights on an automatic timer or asking a neighbor to check on your home and collect your mail. He also said to cut up boxes of gifts you may leave outside for trash pick up, so a burglar isn’t tempted to steal what you have inside. “Don’t leave clues outside in your trash to invite burglars in,” he said. Pilcic said to remove any valuables from view, windows or anything else that would cause someone to break in. He also warns people when they’re out shopping to park in a well lit parking lot and hide your items to avoid getting your car broken into.
