FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Captain Bobby Washington with the Fort Worth Fire Department was a hero this past weekend.
Washington and his crew responded to a house fire on Whitten Drive where a 5-year-old boy was trapped inside. After searching Washington found the boy in his room. “I could hear him whimper,” Washington said. “He initially tried to run away but I told him to come with me and grabbed him, he was scared,” he said. Washington said he took the boy outside to reunite with his mother. “I could only imagine what the parents felt like not knowing where he was and if he was okay,” Washington said. “I felt like my job was accomplished by taking him out and bringing him to his mother,” he said. The child suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. Washington said it was a team effort and he’s proud to work with them. Washington has been in the department for 29 years, following in his father’s footsteps, and now his son following in his. “I can’t imagine myself doing anything else and it’s completely gratifying to help someone when they call 911 and look to us to help them,” he said.
