Community Meetings Continue in Southlake After Insensitive Video

Southlake (WBAP/KLIF) – Fallout continues weeks after an insensitive video surfaced of a group of Southlake ISD students chanting the n-word

A number of community meetings have been held in the district since then; the latest, last night, was for Southlake moms, and hosted by Southlake Mayor Laura Hill and two school board members.

One mom said that after the video, “My child is in the band hall and there are kids re-enacting the video.”

The discussion focused on “civility within the city.” Mayor hill said, “Now is the time for us to get to know our neighbors, understand their stories, and their family’s stories.”

The meeting comes on the heels of another at which African American parents told stories of their children being singled out and ridiculed by district teachers.

Mayor Hill said that “Now is the time for us to get to know our neighbors, understand their stories, and their family’s stories.” “The stories shared at that board meeting were heartbreaking.” Hill said that another meeting will be held in the coming weeks for dads in Southlake about the same issue.
