DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – In honor of Veteran’s Day weekend, the Dallas Arboretum is inviting all active and retired military to come to the park, enjoy a few concerts and have a picnic in the garden for free.

The Arboretum’s Kristi Trail said they’ve been hosting this event for years. She said it’s an easy way to give back.

“We really wanted to put a touch of patriotism on one of our most patriotic weekends and thank the veterans for all that they’ve done for us and remember that we have a lot of them out their still serving our country,” she said.

It’s a well-known fact that vets often have a difficult time transitioning back into civilian life and Trail said this weekend’s events are a way to bond with the family.

“We hope that they will find us to be a welcoming atmosphere. This is one of the prettiest places in the world. So, if they can come out and experience beauty and get back to normalcy that’s great,” said Trail.

The weekend is packed with Fall events such as “Autumn at the Arboretum” and “The Adventures in Neverland”.

Trail said for those who are busy and can only attend on one day, the Carswell Air Force Base Choir and the Fort Hood First Division Calvary are can’t miss events.

“Especially since it is going to be on a Sunday. That is kind of the day for family and most people will be off. I would certainly hope they would come out for that,” she said.

For free admission, you’ll need to bring a military i.d. card,
