Collin County Voters Elect Van Taylor to Congress, Approve Bond Package for Highways, Roads

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) — Collin County voters have elected State Senator Van Taylor to the U.S House of Representatives, representing Texas Congressional District 3.

“They wanted a proven leader with a track record of listening and solving problems,” Taylor told WBAP/KLIF. “That’s certainly what I did in the Texas legislature and what I’ll do in the United States Congress.”

As of late Tuesday evening with 55 percent of votes counted, Taylor was ahead of Democratic challenger Lorie Burch by 10 percentage points, 54% to 44%.

Voters in Collin County also passed a $750 million bond package that would largely go toward the construction of highways and roads — barring votes counted later in the evening.

As far as the county’s input in the hot ticket items, Collin County went to Senator Ted Cruz by seven percentage points (with 55% of the vote counted), who defeated Beto O’Rourke statewide.

“He’s one of these people who are principled. He’s brilliant,” said Terry Wade with the Collin County GOP. “I wish it wasn’t so close, but he’s just an asset to the state of Texas.”
