Carroll ISD School Board Heard Parents Concerns Over Racist Video Posted on Social Media by Students

SOUTHLAKE (WBAP/KLIF News) – Parents in Southlake voiced their concerns at a special Carroll ISD board meeting Friday over how it handled a racist video involving a handful of students.

The video was posted on social media last weekend and showed a group of girls chanting the N-word repeatedly.

Celia McEelvey’s child attends school in the district and said officials need to hold those students accountable.

“When they fall let them know it. Not a slap on the wrist and not letting them off the hook because letting them off the hook will just perpetuate the same type of behavior,” she said.

Many parents told stories about the racist behavior their children experienced while at school.

Kimberly Best fought back tears as she talked about the negative impact the situation has had on everyone.

“I agree the disruption has caused a major disruption to CISD but don’t discount the disruptions to all those who are sitting out here including my children,” she said.

The district told parents the students were punished but did not specify how.
