DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- More than 20 awards were given at the annual Friends of Dallas Police Awards Banquet Monday night.
The ceremony at the Dallas Hyatt Regency recognized officers for their hard work and achievements. Officers Mathew Holson and Hill Martin received a life saving bar, for saving an 8-year-old boy from drowning. “I’m honored, it just shows the department does pay attention, I’m just happy the kid was alive and he did make it, that’s an award in itself,” Martin said.
Some other awards include officer of the year, detective of the year and rookie of the year. Detective Steve David was nominated for detective of the year. “I’m proud, I have been a detective for most of my career so I’m really happy about this,” David said. David has been with the department for 37 years and is retiring in January.
Chief Renee Hall thanks the community for their continued support of Dallas Police. “In this time where law enforcement is more challenging than it’s ever been we have officers who wake up everyday committed to taking care of the residents in this city,” Hall said.
Education Scholarship Awards were also given to employee’s children in order to pay tribute to outstanding employees at Dallas Police Department.
