NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Ahead of a the upcoming season when donations are trypically low, the American Red Cross is looking for Winter blood drive hosts.
Every two seconds, someone is in need of a blood donation in the country. That’s why the organzation stresses the importance of constant intake.
The American Red Cross’ Jan Hale said the public call for help is their way of making sure the coffers are well stocked to keep up with demand.
“We hope that we can avoid a blood shortage that tends to happen this time of year. Lots of times the weather is difficult, the flu season, the holidays…all of these factors can go together,” she said.
There are some specifications as to what is required to host a blood drive but Hale said the organization will provide hosts with a lot of support.
“We’ve got buses that can come to you. We’ve got Red Cross representatives that will walk with you every step of the way,” she said.
For those that may be on the fence about hosting a drive or donating blood, Hale said one should consider the person on the receiving end of a donation.
“The patient on the other end is in the crisis of a lifetime. When you choose to partner with the Red Cross to hold a blood drive, you are helping make sure that life-saving blood is available,” she said.
The blood drives are needed between December 20th and January 6th. You can call 214-424-0718 if you have any questions.
