DALLAS/FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – AAA officials say wet pavement contributes to 1.2 million crashes a year. With heavy rain in DFW, AAA’s Daniel Armbruster gives tips on how drivers can stay safe in this weather. He says to check your car before driving: your lights, windshields wipers and your tires. Checking your tires before driving is crucial to make sure you have good traction to avoid hydroplaning. He said this will decrease your chances of hydroplaning but because of wet roads, be alert in case it does happen.
“If you do feel the car skidding, don’t panic, continue in the direction you want to go and avoid braking because that will further upset the balance of your vehicle,” Ambruster said. He also said to slow down, leave enough room and avoid using cruise control.
