The department posted a tweet saying Blocker 12 was hit by an impaired driver while first responders were tending to a major highway accident.
The blocker trucks were first rolled out in June for the sole purpose of protecting first responders working on busy roads from being struck by other vehicles.
It came as a response to an 18-wheeler striking a Irving fire truck working an accident, which left that driver dead and several firefighters seriously injured.
