Family awaits trial date for Wrongful Death, Police Brutality Case Against Fort Worth Police

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- A Fort Worth family awaits a trial date for a wrongful death, police brutality case against Fort Worth Police.

In 2013, officers did a ‘no knock’ drug raid at Jermaine Darden’s home, where multiple people were inside, including a pregnant woman and kids. Darden’s family attorney Daryl Washington says body camera footage shows police using aggressive force when Jermaine was not resisting arrest. “During the deposition a number of officers even testified that they didn’t receive proper training,” Washington said. Witnesses say officers kicked, choked and shocked Jermaine, and because of his health conditions, it killed him.

Washington believes this should have been done differently. “They should have had more information before doing a no knock raid, I don’t think it was a situation that required a no knock raid,” Washington said. “They knew there were no guns in the home,” he said.

Officials say, officers seized 2.4 grams of cocaine, 1.8 grams of heroin and 3.1 ounces of marijuana.

Fort Worth Police Department says they cant comment until court process has taken place.  The US Supreme court just cleared it to go to trial.
