DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A mistrial was declared Thursday in the trial for a former Mesquite Police Officer accused of shooting a man while on duty last year.

The Judge in the trial for Derick Wiley dismissed the jury after it deliberated for two days. Wiley’s accused of shooting Lyndo Jones last year. Wiley Testified that he thought Jones was burglarizing a truck but the truck actually belonged to Jones. He said he feared for his life but the defense argues Wiley had no right to shoot.
Jones says he confident the Dallas County District Attorney will re-try the case.
“We’ll be back,” said Jones. “We’ll be back.”
The District Attorney hasn’t said if it will retry the case or not.
“My office remains committed to fighting for justice no matter who is accused of a crime. Let there be no doubt, that this office will never show any special consideration for anyone regardless of the position they hold in society.
