ARLINGTON – (WBAP/KLIF) – One man shot by an Arlington police officer Saturday afternoon died in hospital; another is questioned as a witness in the shooting. Arlington Police Lt. Chris Cook says a traffic stop began to get involved when the stopping officer noticed the paper “plates” or tags on the vehicle were either expired, didn’t match the vehicle, or both. He says as another officer stayed with the suspect’s vehicle as records were checked, the driver began rolling up the vehicle’s windows, started the engine and began to drive away – with the officer’s arm trapped inside.
Lt. Cook says the officer opened fire to get free from the moving vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at an area hospital; the officer may have suffered arm injuries thought to be a broken arm or broken wrist. Cook says video will be available in the investigation from body cams worn by both officers as well as dash cam video. The suspect is not yet identified; Cook says he knows only that both men were in their 20s.
