Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata says due process was followed in the Roy Oliver murder case.
Oliver was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 15 years this week in the killing of a 15-year old boy who was a passenger in a car of teens leaving a party when he was shot.
Mata said Thursday that a large percentage of police officers thought that Oliver committed a crime, but he says there was debate over whether it amounted to manslaughter or murder.
Mata says the police “have a responsibility to the public to do the right thing” and that fair judicial decisions help build trust with the community.
Meantime, the family of Jordan Edwards, the young teen who was killed, is moving forward with a civil lawsuit against Oliver and the City of Balch Springs.
