
ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of Arlington is offering unique transportation in the entertainment district. Starting October 19th, Arlington will have 3 driverless vans.
Arlington announced its approval of a contract with California-based self-driving car company Drive.ai for a one-year pilot program.
They will be having three passenger vans that will help visitors and residents get to and from remote parking lots to AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park and other venues.
“Drive.ai looks forward to the opportunity to bring our innovative self-driving technology to the City of Arlington. This forward-thinking, bustling city has unique transportation needs, and we plan to provide a last-mile transit solution within a vibrant entertainment district,” said Conway Chen, vice president of business strategy at Drive.ai.
the vans go up to 35 miles per hour and will travel alongside other vehicles in a predetermined, geo-fenced area. Safety operators will be onboard during the initial program, after the pilot program the city may be getting up to five vans.
Directors say Arlington is well on its way to become the first Texas city to offer self driving transportation.
