The latest victim of the brutal North Texas heat settling over the region this summer is a 30 year old outdoor worker, exposed to extreme heat conditions. The death was reported in Tarrant County, because of the location of the man at the time of his death. . “Individuals exposed to hgih temperatures should stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in a shaded area or air-conditioned space to avoid experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness” says Dr. Christopher Perkins, Dallas County health authority/medical director.
DCHHS offers these tips – Visit an air conditioned building such as a mall or public library during times of extreme heat if your home does not have cooling available. Schedule outdoor activities outside the hottest time periods of the day. Pace yourself. Stay hydrated by drinking more fluids, and keep your pets hydrated.
Dallas County Health and Human Services reminds us indoor heat illnesses can occur as people try to save money on electric bills. DCHHS reminds North Texans of utility assistance; it has information on its website regarding this that might help you or a neighbor.
