DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County sees it’s first death from West Nile Virus spread by mosquito bites. Ganesh Shivaramaiyer with Dallas County Health and Human Services identifies the patient as an 83-year-old woman living in the 75-229 zip code of Dallas. Shivaramaiyer said milder symptoms can be limited to fever, headaches and muscle aches however in rare cases like this, the virus can cause neurological symptoms. Health officials recommend using bug repellents containing “deet”. Other strategies to avoid West Nile Virus are wearing light colored, long and loose clothing, draining all standing water, and limiting outdoor exposure during dusk and dawn.
