Sutherland Springs Survivors File Lawsuit Against Sporting Goods Store

(WBAP/KLIF) – A couple who survived the Sutherland Springs church massacre is suing Academy Sports for selling ammunition to the shooter.

The lawsuit claims that the Academy store in Texas broke the law when it sold Devin Kelley 30-round magazines because he was a resident of Colorado where the magazines are illegal.

Gun expert Emily Taylor told The Rick Roberts Show on our sister-station WBAP gun dealers are responsible for knowing the laws of each state.

“The federal statute here says that we will presume that the dealer has all the knowledge in the world which is unrealistic,” said Taylor. “They can’t get out of it by saying ‘we just didn’t know.'”

Legally, an inter-state gun sale has to comply with laws from both states.
