FRISCO, Texas (WBAP/KLIF News) — Parents are scrambling to refill prescriptions for EpiPens before their kids start back to school.
EpiPens have been in short supply since May. The drug’s maker, Pfizer, tells WFAA:
“We understand how important this potentially life-saving product is to patients, and are working tirelessly to increase production and expedite shipments as rapidly as possible. Currently, supplies may vary from pharmacy to pharmacy, and we are working closely with Mylan to meet their global supply needs during this tight supply situation.”
Mylan is a subsidiary of Pfizer that sells the drug to American outlets.
Megan Brunson is a nurse and mother of two whose 11-year-old son, Sam, will attend Maus Middle School in Frisco this year. She told WFAA Sam has a nut allergy and needs the EpiPen but she can’t find a pharmacy carrying it.
“I started calling and calling and calling, and it didn’t matter who I called, Walgreens, CVS, Tom Thumb, Albertsons, nobody had it.”
Brunson says she did find one brand not covered by her insurance priced at $700.
Mylan is offering customers assistance in finding the drug by calling their Customer Service line: 800-796-9526. They caution that they can’t promise a supply that is covered by most patients’ insurance companies.
