DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A multi-million dollar project will begin this weekend, South of Downtown Dallas. As part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s ‘Southern Gateway Project’, the Beckley Avenue Bridge will be demolished and all lanes of North and Southbound 35E at Beckley Avenue, will be closed over the weekend.
Keith Bilbrey, Communications Manager for the Southern Gateway Project said “The mainlane closure will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 27 and will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 30. North and southbound I-35E traffic will be diverted to temporary detours in both directions to avoid the full mainlane closure. Drivers will be able to re-enter the mainlanes using entrance ramps after the closure. The Zang Boulevard and 12th Street overpasses at I-35E will also be temporarily closed during this time for safety.”
The rebuilding of the Beckley Bridge is scheduled to take about eighteen months. The total $666M initiative is scheduled to completed in 2021. Bilbrey added, “the plan of the Southern Gateway Project is to add a lane in each direction, improve safety, and relieve congestion.” You can find more information about the project here.
