A Collin County nurse was honored Wednesday for caring for a Richardson Police Officer the night he died.
Kim Adams was in the ER when Officer David Sherrard was brought in after being shot during a standoff at an apartment complex. His widow, Nicole Sherrard, said at a ceremony at Medical City Plano that she and Adams have a bond that will last forever.
“She’s a special lady,” Sherrard said.
Adams’ husband is a SWAT Officer like Officer Sherrard was. She said the night he came in to the ER was the worst night of her career.
“I can’t even imagine how hard that was,” said Nicole Sherrard. “I just can’t even imagine. My heart was hurting before I found it was Dave when I heard an Officer was shot because you know someone’s family is going to get bad news.”
Adams was given Medical City Plano’s first ever DAISY award Wednesday. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation is a nonprofit that was created in 1999 after J. Patrick Barnes died at age 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. His family was so moved by the nursing care he received that they started the foundation to recognize extraordinary nurses with The DAISY Award.
