LISTEN: Private Schools Considering Marshal Program, Other Options to Keep Students Safe

(WBAP/KLIF) – School administrators across the country are working this summer to create policy that make schools safer. The Texas Private Schools Association is encouraging private schools in the state to consider the School Marshal Program.

Some rural Texas school districts are arming teachers who go through training, other urban schools are turned off by the idea. The marshal program would allow a designated trained employee to have access to a gun if the school was under attack.

“It can be a security guard or an administrator,” said Executive Director of the Texas Private Schools Association, Laura Colangelo. “They receive 80 hours of training and have a handgun locked away on campus and can use it if an active shooter situation happens.”

The designated employee would be anonymous.

Colangelo speaks more about the program and what private schools are doing to keep kids safe in the WBAP/KLIF School Safety Summer Series Podcast with Nicole Osei and Clayton Neville. Click Below to hear the entire podcast.
